Henderson County Affordable Housing Presentation - Finding Solutions to Collective Housing Issues

The League of Women Voters and the Affordable Housing Coalition of Henderson County are presenting a public forum to discuss the local housing climate, educate community members, and engage in finding solutions to our collective affordable housing issues.  Troubling housing statistics gleaned from the Asheville Regional Housing Consortium's 2009 Needs Assessment and Market Study inspired the collaboration and forum.

When: Thursday, March 17th from 2:30pm to 5:00pm

Where: Henderson County Chamber of Commerce Auditorium located at 204 Kanuga Road, Hendersonville, NC 28739

What: The forum will discuss:

  1. The impact of affordable housing in Henderson County on residents of the community.
  2. An overview of the housing situation in Henderson County (especially as it concerns working families).
  3. What is and is not being accomplished.
  4. How the public may become active advocating for proactive solutions.

Speakers include:

  • Hoyt Bynum Jr., Executive Director, Henderson County Habitat for Humanity
  • Patrick Kennedy, Executive Director, Housing Assistance Corporation
  • Anthony Starr, Planning Director, Henderson County Planning Dept.

Personal Testimonial - In addition, two local families who struggled with providing safe and affordable housing for their families will relate their experience of navigating the process and how it has affected their lives.
